“The Story Behind the Photos: The Cotton Mill Children”

Discover the emotional story of widowed mother Mrs. Catherine Young and her eleven children who were thrust into unforgiving poverty when her husband died unexpectedly. Her story, and the story of her children are reflected through the images of Lewis Hine, a photographer charged with the daunting task of recording the reality of child labor in the 1900s across the United States.

TCA Director and professional story-teller, Bruce Green, will recount the history of the Young family as uncovered through the research of historian Joe Manning. Join us for an evening of rich history, emotional connection, and a surprising and uplifting twist to the ending of the story.
