“When I look out the window of my studio I see the sky, the field, the cows and I am inspired to paint. ” ~Minnie G.

The Tifton Council for the Arts is thrilled to present an extraordinary exhibition celebrating the work of talented local artist, Minnie G. Brown, whose mastery of portraiture and landscapes has left an indelible mark on our community. Through her dedication to her craft, Brown has spent a lifetime capturing the essence of the human spirit and the natural world, translating them into timeless works of art. Her distinctive style and attention to detail bring each subject to life, inviting viewers to see the familiar with fresh eyes.

Brown’s work has graced not only private collections but also holds a place of honor in the Citizens Art Collection at City Hall, as well as in numerous churches throughout the area. Each piece reflects a deep connection to her subjects and a profound understanding of the beauty that surrounds us. This exhibit offers a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in her artistic journey and witness the passion that continues to inspire her creations. Join us as we celebrate a legacy of art that enriches our community and our lives.

Artist’s Statement

“As a Georgian artist deeply rooted in the land I call home, my work is an exploration of both the beauty of the landscape and the people who inhabit it. I am particularly drawn to the interplay between light and shadow, and how it is revealed in a landscape, on a person’s face, or on a gorup of carefully placed objects. Painting, for me, is sheer joy. Taking a blank canvas or paper and seeing one’s vision take shape is magical. I have been working in oils and watercolor for many years and still find that every time I pick up a paint brush, I learn something new.

I started painting and drawing in high school when working on class projects. Later, I majored in art education in college. I have taught in public and private schools for many years as well as teaching private lessons to children. In recent years, I have been teaching adults and that has been such fun! I have loved doing commissioned portraits and landscapes, and I appreciate all the talented artists who have shared their skills and techniques with me.”
