Join local artist and instructor Cris Lawson for a new series of fine art classes.  Start at the beginning with our Foundations series to master drawing a series of prints ranging from beginner to advanced drawing skills.  All courses are offered in 4-week sessions.

FOUNDATIONS I:  CLASSICAL DRAWING WITH BARGUE PLATES

 

September Classes: 6-8 pm
– Thursdays: September 7, 14, 21, 28

 

Draw from the same Bargue Plates as artistic masters VanGogh and Pablo Picasso. The Charles Bargue master drawings are a series of prints ranging from beginner to advanced drawing skills. Train your eye and hand coordination and improve your observation to understand light, shadow and form.  Every artist can benefit from these disciplined lessons.

Materials needed: pencil, charcoal, and sketchbook.

 

FOUNDATIONS II:  COMPOSITION AND VALUES

September Classes: 6-8 pm
– Mondays: September 4, 11, 18, 25

October Classes: 6-8 pm
– Thursdays: October 12, 19, 26, November 2

Learn the control of light and shadow and how a subject’s placement impacts a finished work.  Fundamental skills will be essential for beginners and refining for advanced and intermediate artists.  Students will work form still life’s, landscape photos, and live model.

Materials needed: Set of drawing pencils, ruler, sketchbook, kneaded eraser, gum eraser, table top easel (optional)

 

FOUNDATIONS III:  COLOR THEORY

October Classes: 6-8 pm
Mondays: October 9, 16, 23, 30

 

 

Students explore color as another tool to add to their skillset.  Using simple watercolor paint, learn to control mixes, values, and color combinations to develop a completed still life painting.  Suitable for the beginner or a vital refresher for advanced.  Also serves as a good intro into basic watercolor techniques.

Materials needed: Drawing pencils, watercolor paper sketchbook, pan watercolor set or tube watercolor paint set, hair (not nylon) paint brush set in a variety of sizes. *No easel necessary. Palettes, cups, water, paper towels provided.

 

These classes will be held at the Tift County Recreation Center Special Purposes Building located at 202 Baldwin Drive
