POSITION OVERVIEW

Tifton Council for the Arts is seeking a dynamic and passionate Part-Time Teaching Artist to support the staff at Omega Elementary School for the remainder of the 24-25 school year. This is a collaborative position with the existing STEM teacher. As a Teaching Artist, you will have the opportunity to inspire and nurture the artistic talents of young students, fostering a love for the arts and encouraging their creative expression. The ideal candidate should be skilled in their chosen artistic discipline and possess the ability to engage and connect with K – 5th grade students in an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Curriculum Development: Design and implement engaging and age-appropriate art lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum and educational standards. Create a supportive and inclusive learning atmosphere that fosters creativity and artistic growth.
  • Teaching and Instruction: Deliver inspiring art classes to K-5th grade students, encouraging them to explore various artistic techniques, mediums, and styles. Teach fundamental art concepts, such as color theory, composition, perspective, and artistic expression.
  • Individualized Attention: Provide individualized attention and feedback to students, identifying their strengths and areas for improvement, and tailoring instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Artistic Mentorship: Act as a positive role model for students, fostering a nurturing and encouraging environment that promotes self-confidence and self-expression through art.
  • Maintain Art Supplies: Ensure that art materials and supplies are well-maintained and appropriately stocked, keep track of inventory, and stay within the grant budget.
  • Safety and Supervision: Maintain a safe and orderly art studio environment, adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines, and ensuring students follow proper procedures while handling art materials.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience working with elementary school-aged children and a strong understanding of their developmental needs.
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • A commitment to fostering creativity and a love for the arts among students.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage lesson planning, art supplies, and student artwork.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with students, parents, and fellow staff effectively.
  • Creative, patient, and enthusiastic approach to teaching, with the ability to motivate and inspire young learners.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more artistic disciplines (e.g., drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, etc.). Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, or related field preferred.
  • Understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures and experiences, fostering an inclusive and respectful classroom environment.

 

WORKING HOURS

This is a part-time position for 2 school days per week.  Availability on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and/or Thursdays is preferred.

COMPENSATION

The position pays $25 per hour for up to 20 hours a week.
