“See you at the Syd!” is our invitation to arts events in the Tifton community.
The Syd Blackmarr Arts Center was named in honor of a local woman who has served as driving force for the arts in Tifton and surrounding counties for years.
Syd Blackmarr dedicated nearly 50 years to her career in the arts. Known for her passion for the arts, and for making arts accessible to everyone, it was her trademark ability to inspire collaboration that resulted in such a profound impact on the Tifton community.
“It is an unimaginable gift to have my name associated with this treasured building, especially because of its location in the heart of the community and, because it is beloved by so many for its heritage and beauty,” said Syd Blackmarr.
“However, I cannot accept this decision without gratefully recognizing the many people and organizations that have worked along beside me to make the arts available, affordable, and accessible to all. The support and willingness of organizations, individuals, and the Arts Council to initiate change have made all the difference.”
