“Woodworking & Words”
Karen Thompson, the Branch Manager for the Tifton-Tift County Public Library, will speak about their upcoming programming centered around the 2022-2023 National Endowment for the Arts book The Bear by Andrew Krivak.

About the book: In an Edenic future, a girl and her father live close to the land in the shadow of a lone mountain. They possess a few remnants of civilization: some books, a pane of glass, a set of flint and steel, a comb. The father teaches the girl how to fish and hunt, the secrets of the seasons and the stars. He is preparing her for an adulthood in harmony with nature, for they are the last of humankind. But when the girl finds herself alone in an unknown landscape, it is a bear that will lead her back home through a vast wilderness that offers the greatest lessons of all, if she can only learn to listen.

Following Thompson, Paul Horst and Bob Walker will lead an interactive presentation on the art of wood-turning. Wood turners have a gift, an eye, and a skill for breathing new life and purpose into wood. Horst and Walker will give insight into the processes involved in creating their beautiful forms from selecting the right pieces to completed projects.

This event is in conjunction with the Tifton-Tift County Public Library’s Big Read programming funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. For more information on the Big Read and other library programming click here.
